Sy+*tarting prices to be used as a guide only. Prices vary according to the teddy bear
It is natural to want to know how much it will cost to repair your teddy bear. Unfortunately the answer is not an easy one as every repair is different just like every bear is different. We have had different bears that look very similar needing similar repairs but the work has been completely different due to makes and different fillings and materials etc. As such the prices in here are a guide only and we can only provide a quotation when we see the bear.
Long distance appraisals can be made from supplied photographs but these will be estimates only. A firm price can only be given when we have the teddy bear in front of us. Any work ordered at a distance can be subject to price changes and work carried out will be as requested. Any extra work we think your bear should have will be discussed with you and will only start when you have agreed this with us in writing.
Teddy bears sent to us through the post (or other couriers) should be sent recorded delivery (and preferably tracked) with insurance and are sent at your own risk. Teddy Bear Studio/Worcestershire Teddy Bear Hospital will accept no responsibility for teddy bears lost in transit. All bears will be returned to you by tracked postage with Royal Mail.
We only accept teddy bear repairs from within the United Kingdom.
Postage is extra to all estimates/quotations and will be charged at cost. Tracking information will be provided to you.
Costs of common repairs are starting prices and for a guide only
The costs for repairs seen below are a starting point and should be used as a guide only. As every repair is different these are for an "average size traditional jointed" teddy bear
Complete restoration including wash, destuff and restuff, pads replacement, eye and nose replacement etc. from £250.
Seams from £20 per repair
New pads £30.00 per paw. Based upon replacing pads with high quality felt. Other materials available and prices vary.
Glass eyes replacement from £20 each
Growlers/Squeakers from £25 plus growler/squeaker. This requires opening and restuffing the chest cavity Sometimes a growler can be repaired and will be discussed at the time: this is not known untill we remove the growler and inspect it. New growlers and squakers are available.
Limb attaching/tightening/replacement from £20 per limb
Ear attaching from £15 per ear, new ears add £20 per ear
Foam filled bears (e.g. Wendy Boston) restuff with Polyester from £50. Note: Foam filled bears can be toxic if the foam has started to degrade (this feels like grains of anad inside the bear). This requires very careful handling due to the carcinogenic nature of the dust). Correct handling and disposal of the degraded foam is required. The replacement Polyester fibre filling is the safe, modern filling and is an ideal replacement.
Facial reconstruction from £50
New head from £100
Replacing music boxes from £25 plus music box. Clients must agree the music before purchase or supply their own. Music boxes are available in a limited range of tunes. Specific tunes can be made to order but can take several months to arrive, If a music box can be repaired, this is the preferred option and you will be advised on the best appoach when the music box is inspected.
Cleaning is charged at £12 per hour. We will estimate the time we will need. If it takes us longer we reserve the right to charge extra, if it takes less time, we will refund the dufference. Cleaning is very labour intensive and involves very grntle massage with a soft cloth (cloth is as dry as possible so as not to get the bear too wet). Often we have to leave the bear for days to dry before continuing, this timeis not included in the price. Cleaning can take many weeks so we don not lose any hair from your treasured friend. Regular updates will be sent to keep you fully informed.
Patching holes: if possible from £30 per patch depending on size and material.
New ribbon from £5.
Your bear is safe with us
We take every possible precaution to keep your old friend safe whilst it is in our care. Bears are kept locked away when not being worked on.
Occassionaly (rarely), unforseen problems may occur and we will keep you informed in these circumstances, an example is we recently had a bear in very poor condition and the client wanted the holes in the facial material repaired. We agreed we would try to use as much of the original fabric as possible but unfortunately the fabric was in worse condition than we hoped and as the head was destuffed it disintegrated. In this particular circumstance, the only option was to make a new head for which fabric was carefully chosen to match as closely as possible to the original and special techniques used to age the fabric to match the body as closely as possible. The client was told this may happen and was kept informed (with photographs) and agreed the extra costs involved.
Terms and Conditions
We reserve the right to decline repairs if we think the repair would not be suitable and would cause extra damage to the teddy bear.
Clients should be aware that repairs can cost more than the monetary value of the teddy bear and may devalue teddy bears. We will advise you in these cirmcumstances.
Whilst every care is taken, repairs are made at the clients risk.
An estimate of the time taken to complete the repair will be provided upon contracting Worcestershire Teddy Bear Hospital for this. The date is subject to change as repairs can take longer. You will be kept informed of any delays.
A deposit of 50% is payable upon placing the contract with Worcestershire Teddy Bear Hospital. The balance is payable prior to returning your teddy bear back to you. For postal returns, photographs will be provided of the completed repair when asking for final payment. In the rare situation where you think the repair illustrated is not to your satisfaction, please tell us and it will be corrected.
You will be given 2 months to pay the final bill and will receive three reminders to this effect. Unpaid bills after this time may result in the ownership reverting to Teddy Bear Studio and the bear may be sold to cover the repair costs. You will be informed before this action is taken.
All repairs are documented and a certificate of repair will accompany your teddy bear upon return. These certificates can be useful in providing provenence in future years should your teddy bear be sold.
